Characteristics of Essential Oils Essential oils are odorous and highly volatile, which means that they readily evaporate if given the opportunity, they are not greasy, are quite different from fatty oils, and have a consistency much more like water than oil. It is very important to use only the highest quality, 100% natural and completely pure essential oils from wild or organically grown plants. In order to ensure that their high quality and strength is maintained, they need to be stored in dark-coloured bottles, in a cool place away from direct sunlight. Essential oils are very powerful substances. Their fragrances are able to influence our physical, mental and emotional well-being in a profound and amazing way: they can quickly uplift us, cheer us up; calm and relax us; enliven, motivate and inspire us; harmonize and balance our emotions; dispel tensions, anxieties, headaches, tiredness; improve appetite, digestion, sleep, concentration, memory, mental clarity, willpower, creativity, self-confidence; promote bliss and feelings of euphoria, and so on.... Experiments have also shown that the inhalation of essential oils balances the activities of the right and left hemispheres of the brain; the two sides of the brain begin to function more coherently. The inhalation of essential oils also changes our pulse within seconds—as soon as we smell a different aroma in the room, our pulse shows a different pattern. So we have a very good means in our hands to balance with appropriate aromas possible imbalances of our psycho-physiology in a very pleasant way.
